MAURIZIO TRAVAGLINI

Maurizio’s practice is about helping organizations face their most critical, complex, systemic, adaptive challenges. He designs and facilitates immersive collaborative experiences aimed at developing new approaches to these challenges, while expanding the individual and collective capacity to lead.

The core of his work consists in creating a new space for people to work together and evolve the way they practice leadership. With his team, he creates a structure for the emergence of innovation: not just in the outcome of the work, but also in the way of working itself.

In 2003, Maurizio founded the consulting practice Architects Of Group Genius. With his team, he has worked on six continents in thirty countries for over 400 missions. His clients include: Luca de Meo (CEO, Kering; Renault); Tracey Franklin (Chief People Officer, Moderna); Jeff Bradach (CEO, The Bridgespan Group); Rakesh Khurana (Dean, Harvard College); Diana Aviv (CEO, Feeding America); Harlan Mandel (CEO, Media Development Investment Fund); Nitin Nohria (Dean, Harvard Business School); Stefan Ketter (Chief Manufacturing Officer, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles); Paolo di Grazia (GM, FINECO); Rossella Miccio (President, EMERGENCY); Andreas Schleicher (Director, OECD); María Teresa Ronderos (Director, Open Society Foundations); Lorenzo Bassani (GM, Mediobanca Premier); Margarita Bernal (CEO, Empresa de Desarrollo Urbano Medellín); Claudio Corradini (CEO, Barclays Italy and Iberia); Maria Massei-Rosato (VP Data Strategy, Federal Reserve Bank of New York); Francesco Caltagirone (CEO, Cementir Holding); Annette Schönholzer (co-Director, Art Basel); Antonio Baravalle (CEO, Lavazza); Carole Wedge (CEO, Shepley Bulfinch Architects); Giovanni Ferrero (CEO, Ferrero); Klaus Schwab (President, World Economic Forum).

Since 2014, Maurizio has also been working with academic institutions to conceive, design, produce and facilitate new leadership development programs. From 2014 to 2017, he created and taught the Leadership and Design Thinking program at the Executive Education Department of the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. In 2017 he co-created the Harvard Business School program Leading and Building a Culture of Innovation and became part of its Faculty Team. Since 2015, he also serves as Adjunct Professor of Leadership and Innovation in the Executive Doctorate of Business Administration at the École des Ponts Business School in Paris. From 2020 to 2024, he sat on the board of directors of the Adaptive Leadership Network and co-designed and co-facilitated new programs on Adaptive Leadership in collaboration with Professor Ron Heifetz of the Harvard Kennedy School. In 2021, he conceived and led new virtual programs on Leading for Innovation for several institutions, including the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore.

In 2016, Maurizio was invited by the World Economic Forum to the Davos Annual Meeting. As a Forum Fellow, he spoke about “Leading for Innovation.” He is the co-author of the article Unlocking the Slices of Genius in Your Organization, part of the HBS Centennial publication Handbook of Leadership Theory and Practice (written jointly with Professor Linda Hill from Harvard Business School and Greg Brandeau from Pixar Studios).

ARCHITECTS OF GROUP GENIUS

Based in Milan, since 2003 Architects Of Group Genius operates within the blurred boundaries of leadership and strategy; collaboration and learning; change and innovation.
A mix of diverse talents contributes to the creation of immersive experiences that allow people to lead transitions, develop new strategies, co-design new solutions, try new approaches; embrace new ways of working.
Mostly: build a new capacity to lead together

that is essential for the evolution of any organization.

Depending on the purpose and the complexity of the mission, Architects’ work unfolds over a span of two months to three years, and may include a number of different interventions, in person and online: from a three-day StrategyLab with 100 executives to a five-day InnovationLab with 150 executives, managers and front-line employees; from an online “jam session” with 3000 people, to an incubator where new ideas are iterated until they reach fruition.

400 missions. 30 countries. 6 continents.

From ‘Innovation in Strategy’ to ‘Strategies for Innovation’.
